A concrete overlay is a specially designed, thin layer of polymer modified concrete used to resurface or repair existing concrete. They can be applied from feather edge thin up to 2" thick in some cases. Overlays can be stamped, broom finished, or left smooth. Most all manufactures of concrete overlay products have their own proprietary blends.
Stamped Concrete Overlays are one of the most popular, single-component stampable cement coatings. The main purpose – to design beautiful exterior concrete surfaces. Stamped overlay creates a concrete texture co that can be like a tile, natural stone, or bricks. Basically, can stamping offers concrete repair, restoration, and resurfacing.
When an overlay is applied properly and well-protected by a sealer or coating, it should last a lifetime, even under heavy foot or vehicle traffic. The key is to reapply the sealer if it begins to show some wear. Otherwise, wear patterns may begin to show, especially in colored surfaces. For more information, see Concrete Overlay Maintenance.
Here are the key factors to remember when working with overlays in hot conditions: The temperature of the surface to receive the overlay is as important as the air temperature. Only apply overlays when [air and surface?] temperatures range from 50 F to 90 F. If in doubt, hold off until temperatures moderate.
