Redoing the pathways is not high on my long to-do list so occasionally I throw down paving sand, sweep it into the cracks and water the whole thing. The next day I add more sand where needed, sweep, water and call it good enough. Repeat every couple of years.

The reason why cement isn't recommended is that your pavers move independently of each other. If you were to put cement between the pavers it would inevitably crack.
